about
Zero-Sum song is written as a critique of society as a whole. We act as if happiness is a 'zero-sum game', meaning that for one person to be happy, another person must suffer. Global suffering continues on a daily basis so that we can live a comfortable life and the song aims to challenge the idea that one person is worth any more than another. The menacing guitar riffs, followed by the uplifting choruses, serves as a metaphor for the difference between the evil of society today and the good that we can achieve if we strive for equality.
lyrics
Renouncing all burdens of sorrow and shame,
The ones that we uphold tip the scales again,
The balance I've tried to achieve, it's deceived,
The hopeless and the worthless aren't worthless to me.
Accepting only what you cannot see,
Derision precedes disbelief,
Your silence is funded by greed,
Echoing the world you perceive.
You'll find no peace,
No sentiment of mine,
For the debt you owe,
Is honoured in due time.
Paralysed in Synesthesia,
Lost in artefacts in you behaviour,
Perpetual amnesia displaces your mind,
All the time.
You merge with feeling that you fear the most,
On the heavens you tread just to walk alone.
Hoping to breathe but you never.
Break from the moment,
From a feeling unspoken.
You'll find no peace,
No sentiment of mine,
For the debt you owe,
Is honoured in due time.
Break from the moment,
From a feeling unspoken,
From this nightmare you've woken,
Separate the fibre from the core,
Vivid in hiding,
Homeward residing,
Our innermost evil outsider,
Silencing the essence of us all.
You'll find no peace,
No sentiment of mine,
For the debt you owe,
Is honoured in due time.
At the mercy of your fate,
You justify your right,
The authors of your name are
those you left behind.
No sentiment of mine.
